Principal's Message

Dear Ida B. Wells Middle School Family,

I hope this message finds you well! I am humbled to serve a school with such talented and bright scholars, an extremely dedicated staff, and a supportive school community. As the founding assistant principal, it has been amazing to see our growth as a school and I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to love, grow, and serve as your new principal.

The 22-23SY marks my 15th year in education and I come with a set of skills and experiences at the elementary, middle, and high school level. The last 6 years I’ve had the privilege to serve in the Ward 4 community. In addition to my role as an educator, I am first and foremost a son, brother, and uncle who values family. My parents live in my hometown of Nashville, TN. I have three sisters: Christie, Starla, and Nia and three nieces and nephews: Kaci, Gertrude, and Michael. They are all very thrilled about my appointment! My love for family often translates in the relationships I build with scholars and their families.

What I appreciate about the Wells Community is that we have never lost sight of our commitment to remaining scholar-centered, valuing diversity, equity, and inclusion, and devoted to the belief that all scholars can learn and should have access to a rigorous and high-quality learning experience.

I view learning as a life-long process and firmly believe that the partnership between home and school is vital to building confidence in our scholars to recognize, develop, and use their powers to shape their future and the future of our city and nation. I am looking forward to working with families to ensure our hopes, dreams, and desires for our scholars come true.

In closing, know that my door is always open. I welcome your conversation and positive input and look forward to celebrating our collective successes this school year!

For the love of children,
Principal Lyles
