Culture Model

culture 3

At Ida B. Wells MS, we seek to develop empathetic and socially-conscious students to become change agents in our community and architects of their future. Our culture model prioritizes social and emotional learning and recognizes its impact on scholar achievement. We seek to create a community of interconnected, stable and supportive relationships with scholars.

culture 2

To foster a positive culture, scholars are supported through the use of flexible and creative practices. Our staff engages in interactions with scholars that include: challenging instruction, explicitly teaching social skills, celebrating scholar growth and effort and redirection with clear expectations. Our restorative approach to discipline is designed to support the unique path of each scholar. Through circle discussions and meditations, our hope is to validate the experiences of each individual involved, before collaborating to determine a solution.

culture 1

At Ida B. Wells Middle School, scholars feel LOVE through a nurturing environment that is built on a sense of belonging, relationship building, positive outlook and a reduction of the power dynamic. We encourage GROWTH by setting high expectations, establishing structure and routine, embracing challenges and building student accountability. Scholars will learn to SERVE through instruction that is infused with their life experiences, offering their input and a sense of agency and choice that leads to social action.
